Danny Robert McCalip, 64, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:52 a.m. Monday Dec. 25, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 7, 1953, in Visalia, Calif., to Robert McCalip and Joanne Perkins McCalip.
Survivors include his wife, Tamie Sue Wilson McCalip, whom he married Sept. 21, 2001, in Branson, Mo.; a son, Stephen W. Bennett Jr. of Terre Haute; a daughter, Victoria S. Newton (Joshua) of Terre Haute; a brother, Tim Ludden of California; two sisters, Linda Laubach and Patty Matthews, both of California; two grandchildren, Noah Andrew Newton and Natalie Elizabeth Newton; and his best friend, Monte Hayes of Brazil.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Danny was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Army 10th special forces. He served as a infantry platoon sergeant and received numerous medals including the distinguished service cross, a silver star, two bronze stars, three purple hearts, republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm, parachutist badge and many more to numerous to list. He spoke German and Vietnamese.
Danny was a family man and a workaholic. He loved his children and grandchildren and he loved the outdoors.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Thomas officiating and military honors provided by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 12 noon until service time Tuesday. Cremation has been scheduled after all services.
