D. Michael Eslinger, 74, of Rockville, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was retired Parke County Sheriff serving four terms. He also served 20 years as executive director for the Indiana Sheriffs Association and 10 years with the Indiana State Police. He was born April 16, 1943, in Chrisman, Ill., to the late Oliver J. Eslinger and Helen Juanita Durham Eslinger Stegmeyer. His wife of 55 years, Darla Kay Davis Eslinger, whom he married Oct. 13, 1962, in Clinton, passed away with him in the auto accident.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff (Donna) Eslinger of Rockville, Michael (Katie) Eslinger of Sullivan and Eric (Jennie) Eslinger of Rockville; five grandchildren, Jake (Savanna) Eslinger, Nate (Lyndsy) Eslinger, Josie Eslinger, Rachel Eslinger and Olivia Eslinger; two stepgrandchildren, Kyle and Lindsey; and special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dalana Kay Eslinger.
He was a 1961 graduate of Rosedale High School. He was a member of the Rockville Christian Church, Masonic lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and many other organizations.
Joint services for Mike and Darla will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Rockville Christian Church, 292 W. US Highway 36, Rockville. Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, west of St. Bernice. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
