Clarice H. Mitchell, 98, of Bedford, died at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at Bliss Place Assisted Living in Bedford.
Born Sept. 22, 1919, in Indian Springs, Ind., she was the daughter of Odes and Mary Ethel (Faris) Hitchcock. She married Harold C. Mitchell on March 15, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1992.
She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She was a teacher at Pea Ridge, Trinity Springs, Shoals, Williams, Fayetteville and Dugger for 31 years. She was a member of the Bedford First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the John Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Lawrence County Historical and Genealogical society.
Survivors include one son, Philip H. Mitchell (Judy), of Bedford; a daughter, Janice Bedwell (Rex Dennis), of Carbon, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Michael W. Mitchell; a granddaughter, Carrie Mitchell; a brother, Arnold F. Hitchcock; and a daughter-in-law, Donna (Embree) Mitchell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day and Carter Mortuary, with Pastor Lee Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday, Feb. 5, at the Day and Carter Mortuary.
