Charles Samuel Shaner Jr., 81, of Franklin, passed away at Franklin United Methodist Community on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017. He was born in Greencastle, on July 10, 1935, the son of Charles Samuel and Elizabeth (Varvel) Shaner Sr. Charles was a graduate of Greencastle High School. He also completed four years of Vocational School.
Mr. Shaner proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 23, the National Knife Collectors Association, VanBibber Lake Lions Club, and attended Putnamville Baptist Church. He was employed for 32 years as a Machine Repairman with G. M. Truck and Bus in Indianapolis.
Survivors include his former wife, Wanda Shaner; two children, Connie Wallace and husband Randy of Helotes, Texas and Charles Joseph Shaner, Port Charlotte, Fla.; three grandchildren, Brittanie, Kati, and Sara; a great-grandson, Rohan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and David Shaner; and a sister, Joan Irwin.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at funreal home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Memories may be shared with the family at:
