Charles Edward Cox, 79, of West Terre Haute passed away at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 21, 1938, in Terre Haute to Vernon Cox and Martha Coppock Cox.
Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 6574 and also a member of the American Legion Post 501. He was also a member of the Military Honors Team of the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard for many years. He was a very patriotic man and he will be sadly missed by his comrades and all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rose Cox; a stepson, David Vanlandingham; four grandchildren, Yainee Boyd, Bryant Vanlandingham, Rebecca Vanlandingham, and Ian Vanlandingham; two great-grandchildren, Payton Mitchell and Emmanuel Chambers; three brothers, Dave Cox (Betty), Sam Cox (Janet), and Cy Cox (Fannie); a sister, Lucy Layton; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dick Cox and Joe Cox; and two sisters, Mary Ann Tatlock and Ilene Donham.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with Pastor Buddy White officiating and military honors provided by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until service time Thursday. Cremation has been arranged after all services. Contact online at:
