Carolyn L Fakouri

Carolyn Fakouri died on Feb. 7, 2019 with her family present. She was born to Michael and Caroline Hacker on April 19, 1939 and grew up on a farm in Naperville, Ill.
She graduated from the Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago and went on to earn a BSN and Ph D in nursing from Indiana University.
She met her husband, Ebrahim, at Indiana University and they both joined the faculty at Indiana State University in 1966.
Carolyn was blessed with a loving family who inspired her to keep on learning throughout her adult life. As a nursing professor, she appreciated the many students she had the opportunity to know and was honored to receive the Caleb Mills teaching award in 1985. In retirement she enjoyed traveling, book clubs, and most of all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, her son, Bejan, and her daughter, Maryam, grandchildren, Haley and John Fakouri, a brother, William Hacker (Lorraine) and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday Feb. 12, in Highland Lawn Cemetery, and a celebration of life to follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th St., Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804, was entrusted with care and arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Indiana State University nursing program.

Dr. Fakouri and family,

Please accept my sincere condolences for the passing of your beloved wife and mother. She was a wonderful woman.

I remember once I asked Carolyn why she retired so soon she said “ I did every thing late. I want to this on time” I wish she was late in her passing too. I have many good memories from her which I cherish.

I graduated from ISU School of Nursing in 1968 and so was one of the first students that Dr. Fakouri taught. She was an outstanding professor, role model, and mentor. In 2006 when I applied for a teaching position in the School of Nursing, the search committee invited Dr. Fakouri to have dinner with us. I was delighted to see her again. I'll always remember her fondly for she was one of the best professors I encountered. Prayers go out to her family at this time.

I worked with Carolyn for many years in the nursing program at Indiana State University. We had many joyful experiences with students and faculty over the years. Carolyn was a delight to work with and I appreciate her mentorship as a new faculty member (I joined the faculty in 1977). She always had a smile on her face and was a very positive person. I will miss her. My sympathies to Ebrahim and the children. God bless! Kathy Pickrell
