Carolyn Jones Coon, 92, of Naples, Fla., died Jan. 27, 2018, in Gulf Coast Hospital, Fort Myers, Fla. She was born in Terre Haute, on Dec. 14, 1925.
She received a bachelor's and master's degree from Indiana State University. Carolyn taught English at Columbus High School, Lew Wallace High School in Gary, and was a guidance counselor at Merrillville High Sschool before retiring to Naples. She was a member of the Naples Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Coon Jr. of Kokomo; parents, Fern and Walter Jones of Terre Haute; and stepgrandson, Andrew Rice of Indianapolis.
She is survived by daughter, Michele Rice (Terry) of Fort Myers; son, Michael Coon (Susan) of Miami; sister, Donita Laughlin (George) of New Johnsonville, Tenn.; granddaughters, Lindsay and Melissa Coon; stepgranddaughter, Sarah Rice; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, with viewing 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., funeral 1 to 2 p.m. at Samaritan Funeral Home, burial to follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Humane Society Naples, hsnaples.org.
