Byron Edward Tomlinson, 66, of Terre Haute passed away Aug. 11, 2017, at 2:25 a.m. in his home surrounded by family. He was born Oct. 11, 1950, in Terre Haute to Curtis and Agnes Tomlinson.
Byron was a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed in England. Byron attended First Church of the Nazarene in Terre Haute. He retired from the Vigo County School Corporation.
He's a member of the Terre Haute musicians Hall of Fame, from playing in several bands. Byron was quite the musician. He played keyboard, rhythm guitar, trumpet, mandolin and several others. He played in the bands Hot Summer Wine for 15 years, Short Notice for 15 years, and also Night Castle. He played music from the '70s to the early 2000's with his friend George Bays. Every Thursday night he played gospel music with his father and brother. He was the youngest trumpet player in Deming elementary and the Tribune Star did an article about him during that time. He was an also a large supporter of the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed fishing very much, spending every Saturday fishing with his grandsons and brother. Byron is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven Alan Tomlinson and Ryan Keith Tomlinson; and a brother, Curtis Alan Tomlinson. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Tina Tomlinson; sons, Shawn Stevens and CJ Stevens; sisters, Sharon Downing and her husband Ralph, Becky Fisher and her husband Tony, and Debbie Rudicel; a brother-in-law, Terry Callecod; grandchildren, Sarah, Logan, Gavin, Dakota, Brianna, Sicilee and Kristopher; great-grandchildren, Caysen, Addison and Kayleigh; along with several nieces and nephews.
Services for Byron will be Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute, at 1 p.m. A visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Fleschner will be officiating. Military rights will be performed by American Legion Post 104 at the cemetery. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at:
