Blondie Eugene "Gene" King, 75, passed away unexpectedly in a car accident Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017. He was born Dec. 10, 1941, in Oakland, Ill., to Wendell E. King and Dorothy M. Eldridge King.
Gene was a 50-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was an avid outdoorsman; spending lots of time outside fishing, mushroom hunting, and working in his garden growing tomatoes. He loved attending the Newport Antique Hill Climb, and even judged the event once. Gene also was a volunteer cook for the men's shelter.
His long time partner of over 30 years, Wanda Spence, also lost her life in the accident.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William King of Pennsylvania; a sister, Betty Jo Shaw; a niece, Loretta; and a nephew, Curtis.
He is survived by a son, Daniel King; daughters, Denise King and Dena Cox and her husband James Jr.; a sister, Wendy Shannon and her husband Larry; grandchildren, Brandon King, Whitney Smart (Michael), Tara Williams, Lewis Cox and Abigail Cox; and nieces and nephews, Annette, Hank, Billy, Laurie, Judy and Barbara.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 823 Poplar Street, Terre Haute.
