Billy's Story

Billy Herndon, 90, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Bicknell, to Bryan and Eva Marie Jamison Herndon. He retired from the Terre Haute Police Department after over 30 years of service.
He is survived by two sons, Bradley J. Herndon and his wife Nancy of Greenfield and Steven V. Herndon and his wife Amy of Terre Haute; one sister, Mildred Lucille King of Terre Haute; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Carol Samuels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of over 50 years, Margaret Church Herndon; infant son, Billy Herndon; and sisters, Mary Herndon Fallowfield, Betty Jean Herndon Mullen Holsclaw and Jerry Ann Royer Smith.
Billy was a member of the Scottish Rite and frequently performed with the Elks Cantors.
Billy served in three branches of the military: Navy, Army and Marine Corps. He remained active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 104 and Marine Corps League.
