Basil L. Keller, 84, of Shelburn, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Shakamak Good Samaritan Center in Jasonville. He was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Howesville, to Merle Keller and Louise (Pool) Keller.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne (Burdette) Keller of Shelburn, who he married on May 24, 1952; children, Randy Keller (Cindy) of Letart W.Va., and Wendell Keller (Rita) Shelburn; seven grandchildren, Chris Keller (Annette), Ryan Keller, Josh Keller, Michael Hughes (Kristin), Crystal Hughes, Ashley Keller and Kevin Keller (Heather Shipley); three great-grandchildren, Brody Keller, Parker Keller and Peyton Keller; half sister, Merle Ann Dickey of Reno, Nev.; stepsister, Phyllis Woodman of Washington State; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Keller of Centerville and Shirley Keller of Indianapolis; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don Keller and Lloyd Keller; daughter, Patsy Hughes; great-grandsons, Zachary Hughes, Jude Tamm; grandpa, Frank Pool; and Aunt Charlotte Pool who raised him.
Basil was a final inspector at J.I. Case, where he retired and then to Otis Elevator. He was a member of the Shelburn Masonic Lodge, Shriners in Terre Haute, Scottish Rite, Valley Field and Stream Campground in Farmersburg, Coal City Campground. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, loved NASCAR and was an excellent woodworker.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 South Meridian St., Jasonville. Visitation is scheduled from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Norman Santus and Brother Jim Rambis officiating. Interment will be at Peavey Cemetery in Howesville.
