Ruth Gilbert, 100, of Crown Point, formerly of West Terre Haute, passed away at 7:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at the St. Anthony Home, in Crown Point. She retired as a Cook from the Vigo County School Corporation after many years of service.
She was born March 19, 1915, in Sullivan County, to Thomas Crynes and Cordia Hixon Crynes. Her husband, Buford Gilbert, whom she married on Dec. 25, 1936, preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Gilbert.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Jerry Pierce of Emory, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Mary Gilbert of Crown Point; five grandchildren, Jason and Dori Pierce of Alba,Texas, Clayton and Jolee Pierce of Emory, Texas, Brent Gilbert of Crown Point, Adam and Cheryl Gilbert of Cedar Lake, and Anna and Bob Huppenthal of Peru; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 428 at West Terre Haute for over 50 years.
Funeral services for Ruth will be 1 p.m. Friday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Friday. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the heartfelt charity of donor's choice.
